The changing of the external environment to improve the aesthetic and practical use of an outside space by the use of the following methods; paving using decorative shingles, paving slabs and blocks or concreting. Changes in legislation mean that certain paved areas are required to be of a porous construction.  This can be achieved using open graded crushed stone as a sub base and using 6mm limestone to bed the blocks on. Landscaping can be the changing of the ground profile to achieve features such as ponds, walls, soiling and planting. Water loss can be reduced on planted areas by using shingle or decorative aggregates as mulch.
