Riding Arenas and Sport Pitches

These facilities require good vertical drainage to keep the surface clear of water during wet conditions. This enables the facility to be used at all times even during inclement weather. The usual manner of construction is to put drainage pipes in the prepared formation and surround the pipes with shingle. A textile membrane is laid over the formation and a layer of 75-40mm limestone is laid to level and compacted with a suitable roller.

The surface is then covered with a thin layer of 20-10 limestone prior to laying a further optional membrane. The surface layer of arena sand is the spread to level for an arena or a specialist surface for a sports pitch.
