Helping in the Cummunity -

Smiths are proud of their assistance they have given in helping local community projects over the years, especially those close to the Smiths working sites.

As to endorse those sentiments Andrew Smith recently commented that:

“As a local, family company, selling locally produced, staple building products, and employing local people, Smiths are very pleased to be able to support community projects in the vicinity of their sites”

We were happy to assist the following community projects this summer…

A project close to home.

The village of Bletchington has obvious connections with Smiths! The clue is in the company name after all…

So when it was announced that the village needed a new primary school and hall, Smiths were more than willing to assist with this project.

A charity foundation committee was formed, which included all the interested parties; local authorities, parish councillors, Duchy of Cornwall representatives (land owner) and the village hall committee - their aim to bring together all parties to provide land and finances to complete this project and build a combined new primary school and village hall.

The main project is now complete, the school is now in use by the children of the village and the hall is up and running with events. More details are available on their website. Further development in this area is to include over 50 houses, a new village shop and a fantastic nature reserve.

This impressive project involved a lot of hard work and fund raising from all parties. Smiths were able to help by donating building aggregates to the site and also through the stonemason who donated Smiths quality Cotswold walling stone.

Smiths (Bletchington) Limited continue to support the local communities.

Middle Barton received aggregates to help with their sports pavilion extension.

The Leys in Witney received 22 tonnes of Type1 aggregate and 16 tonnes of paths gravel to help complete the new play area, which caters for the young children of Witney.

Stanton Harcourt and Sutton collaborated in organising and creating two play and social areas for the village youngest. This project received 25 tonnes of aggregates and 18 tones of path gravel for the new Jubilee Field play areas. The project, through the hard work and dedication of the SHAPE committee, was final completed this summer and was opened by the Prime Minister and Witney MP David Cameron, who said:

“The new playground is tribute to what communities can achieve when they pull together.”

Along with a youth committee formed to help with the design and fundraising, they have raised just over £100,000 to enable the development of the play areas. The completed Jubilee Field area has been built on land purchased by the parish council some years ago and has been designed as an area for older children. With the village teenagers being consulted on the equipment chosen.

Claire Rich, who chaired the project, said: “The project has been a real community endeavour and could not have been achieved without the support and involvement of many people in the village.”

Here at Smiths we are happy to pull together…
